SPT SU-4010 DUAL-MIST WARM/COOL HUMIDIFIER WITH ION EXCHANGE FILTER – What You Should Know
The SPT SU-4010 Ultrasonic Dual-Mist is one of the more popular units this brand has to offer. Most humidifier units that contain cool and warm mist capability usually cost over $100 and usually more (up to $200 in some cases). So I was a little surprised at how low priced this machine was.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this unit, there were a lot of good reviews about it online so I had to give it a try myself. Plus the SPT SU-2653 machine did a pretty good job when we tested it, so I figured it was worth a shot.
What is it?
This dual mist machine can hold up to 1 gal of water (4L) and works best when used in small to medium sized rooms (up to 500 sq. ft). Despite it’s small tank for a dual mist unit, it can operate for up to 12 hours as a cool mist and up to 10 as a warm mist. It has a very slim design (which works well in smaller spaces) and also features a 360° nozzle with a bi-directional spout. This allows you to spread your mist to a larger area than a regular uni-directional one.
The SPT SU-4010 is one of the few ultrasonic units that requires a filter. In this case its an Ion Exchange style which is used to decrease the build up of calcium and magnesium from the use of hard water. Lastly, this unit also features an auto shut-off function which is a good for saving energy.
What I liked?
The SPT SU-4010 does a really good job whether it’s set on a cool or warm mist. I mostly used it in my bedroom which is not very big, so I had no issues getting the right amount of moisture when I needed it. The machine was very easy to setup and pretty much performed well out of the box. The tank is not very big, so re-filling it isn’t much of a hassle. Plus it’s slim design allows you to fit it into places where other units might not.
It also runs very quietly minus the odd water dropping/gurgling sounds, but pretty much every machine will do that every once and a while. Another thing I liked about this unit was the split nozzle and the free cleaning brush that comes included. Since the spout can be turned 360°, I find it really does help disperse the mist in your room pretty quickly.
What I didn’t Like?
One thing I noticed right away was the unit takes quite some time to switch from warm mist to cool. I’m guessing it’s because there is no cooling mechanism inside of the unit. The best way I found to fix this was to completely change the water in the tank. Kind of annoying I know, but at least it’s not a 2 or 3 gal tank that you have to lug around.
Another thing I didn’t like was that the machine does not include a timer which can be essential to some users. Also, I didn’t like the need to change the filter in order to keep your water clean. I understand that it’s required for some units, but buying filters regularly is an additional cost I like to avoid if I can.
I have to say that the SPT SU-4010 is a very good machine in the end. It has a fairly unique design and works great for anyone looking to add moisture to any small to medium sized room. Despite the few details I didn’t like, this unit is an excellent buy for anyone on a budget that’s still looking for dual mist capabilities.
