Vicks V745A Warm Mist Humidifier with Auto Shut-Off – What You Should Know
If you’re the type to get very cold during the winter or just naturally prefer using a warm mist humidifier, then the Vicks V745A is a great option that is also very affordable. Vicks is a very well known company that has been around for a long time. If you’ve grown up with their products in your household, then you know that they specialize in making all types of products to help relieve your cold and flu symptoms.
I’ve come to realize that their humidifier line is actually made by another company. As per their website, Vicks’ home health care product line has been brought to you by Kaz (in partnership with Procter & Gamble) since 1995. If I’m not mistaken, I believe they has also manufacture humidifiers for Honeywell and other products for Braun Electronics.
The Vicks V745A Warm Mist unit can kill up to 96% of bacteria as it boils your water into steam vapor. The thing I found very interesting about this device was that it allows you to place a medicine cup at the top of the machine which you can place “Vicks Vaposteam” or any other type of “Kaz Inhalent”. This helps give you that Vicks fresh medicated feeling in your nostrils. Some people love this idea, while others will tell you to stay away from putting any medication inside your humidifier. I’ve never used medication with this machine, so I would recommend doing some research before using that feature.
What is it?
The Vicks V745A can be filled up to 1 gal and can run for up to 12 hours on one full tank. When used at night I usually have about half to 1/3 of water left after approx 6-8 hours. It also comes with a illuminated night light that helps you see your controls while adjusting settings in the dark. Once your tank is empty the Vicks V745A will automatically shut off, which is great for saving on energy.
In my opinion, this unit is best used in a small to medium sized room (up to 200 ft.²). Any room bigger than that may require more than one of these units to be used. Other than that this machine operates very quiet. If you’re a light sleeper, you shouldn’t have too many problems falling asleep with his guy in your room.
What I liked?
First off, this is one of the more basic machines that we have reviewed on the site. Since it’s a warm mist, it boils the water to clean out it’s impurities rather than using special cleaning technologies, filters or demineralization cartridges. As a result, in my experience it makes cleaning this type of machine a lot easier. For example, the Vicks V745A Warm Mist’s water tank can be thrown into your dishwasher instead of having to manually clean it yourself. This has saved me not only a lot of time but a lot of effort.
Besides cleaning and maintenance, the Vicks V745A did a really good job keeping my nostrils and throat not only moist but warm. It was even great at treating my dry skin and chapped lips, which are usually bad all year round and not just during the winter. Another thing I really liked about this machine with how quiet it operates. Not only is it great to use at night, but it’s just as quite to use during the day.
What I didn’t Like?
For its price I shouldn’t complain, but I do wish that this unit could work in a larger space. In my bedroom it works perfectly as well as some other rooms in our home. Although, it struggles in big spaces such as our family and dining room areas. Another thing that could be a problem is how often you are required to clean this machine. If you don’t have a dishwasher it may be a bit tedious but regardless you should be cleaning your unit often anyways in my opinion.
In my overall opinion I would have to say that this is probably one of the better quality and better priced warm mist humidifiers that you will find online. Vicks is a name that I trust and for $30, you can’t really go wrong. If this is your first time buying and your a little iffy on which warm mist unit to go with, then definitely do some more research on Vicks if you don’t know about them already.
