VICKS V790N UV 99.999% GERM FREE – What You Should Know
Here is another warm mist unit from Vicks / Kaz. The Vicks V790N Germ Free Humidifier operates different than most machines out there in that it uses ultraviolet light to help kill most bacteria and impurities before your steam leaves its chamber. This is my first time ever using a machine like this. Overall this unit does a really good job at keeping your room humid and providing a lot of moisture, but there are a few things that I didn’t like as well.
This machine uses two big and easy to fill water tanks and has no problem running overnight or for most of the day. Like the V745A the Vicks V790N can also be used to disperse medicine or Vicks Vaposteam as they call it, to help soothe your throat or nasal passages even more. Again, I have never done this before, so I would double check with your doctor before doing so yourself.
What is it?
Even though this machine uses UV light to kill bacteria, it still boils water in it’s heat reservoir before the steam is released. The Vicks V790N can he filled up to 2 gal and can run for up to 24 hours depending on how high you adjust your humidity level to.
Now this unit is said to work best in rooms that are medium to large in size. If you’re going to attempt to use this in a small room, then be prepared to possibly awaken to a very humid room. From my experience this machine produces a lot of humidity and it doesn’t even need to be on its highest setting to do so. Lastly, machine does operate fairly quiet (minus a few technical problems) and shouldn’t be too noisy for light sleepers.
What I liked?
What I liked most about this machine was that it not only did a great job on my throat and reducing cold / flu symptoms. But it also worked just as good at keeping me warm during the day and at night. Before purchasing a humidifier during the winter, I would always blast my heat whenever it got cold. With the Vicks V790N I’m actually able to low down my heat a little bit while it’s on. Otherwise I actually start to sweat sometimes while inside of my home.
Other than that, this machine does a great job with my dry skin and chapped lips. It can also run for a very long time before having to refill it, which I know is a big plus for some users.
What I didn’t Like?
Now there are a few things that I didn’t like about this machine. First off, I think the unit looks very attractive and stylish, although it’s blue ultraviolet light can be kind of annoying when being used at night. In the evening it looks pretty cool and can work conveniently as a night light if needed, but I wish there was a way to cover it up without having to block it with a book or some other method.
Another thing I didn’t like about this unit was it sometimes made a weird gargling sound while in use. I believe it comes from the nozzle, but I didn’t want to mess around too much with the machine in fear of violating my warranty. The noise isn’t going to tear your ears off but it may be annoying to some.
One last thing I realized about this machine was that it was a little tedious to clean. The user manual goes in depth with this one, but at the end of the day maintenance will ensure a longer lasting machine.
In the end I have to say that this is a pretty good machine overall. It’s a little more expensive than some units available on the market but it does allow you to cool a fairly decent sized space.
If you’d don’t mind the extra humidity that this machine tends to give out or you find yourself always cold no matter what, then this machine might catch your interest. Otherwise you may want to try a different warm mist unit or going with a cool mist instead.
